Organic Authenticity
In 1988, after twenty years of internal organic certification, Eden began working with third-party organic certifiers. Our in house systems and manuals were studied by the new organic certifiers for growers and processors in North America and were part of their foundations.
Though all EDEN organic food is grown, handled, processed, and certified in a way that meets and exceeds the requirements for using the 'USDA Organic' seal, Ed
en chooses not to use this seal on its food labels. In short this seal does not approach Eden's standards for organic, in practice or in spirit.

Although Eden works with a select group of certification agencies, we still, and will always maintain responsibility for overseeing all due diligence in ensuring Organic Authenticity for our customers. It's more than paperwork. We only work with the most rigorous certifiers. Each of our growers uses only third-party certifiers that agree with our high standards, require an audit trail, and allow complete transparency to Eden Foods and our customers. There are many "Allowables" in the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) that Eden would never allow. Despite the national law, certification requirements vary widely at this time. Eden does not consider food 'certified organic' unless we have executed due diligence and have confirmed authenticity. The same is true for our non-genetically engineered claims.
GEO Free
Eden visits with the family farmers who grow EDEN organic food, sitting in their kitchens, exchanging updates, and walking their fields. There's no other way to build such a network of dynamic relationships, or to know without a doubt, that the food they grow is truly what we and our customers seek.
Eden continues to reinforce and build its relations with organic growers and traditional food makers today, nurturing more than 350 family farms with over 75,000 acres of vibrant organic farm land.
Since 1993 Eden has been diligent in developing its system that actively avoids genetically engineered food experiments. The GEO industry's PR firms say it's impossible to make GEO free food because genetic pollution is so pervasive. Yet, Eden does it with our due diligence and meticulous attention to detail in verifying, before we make the claim GEO free. Eden is proof this is doable on a commercial scale and we have the records and tests to prove it.

Irradiation Free
Realizing that powerful forces were determined to make food irradiation a common practice, Eden first communicated with our customers about this issue and established a Zero Tolerance policy for irradiated foods in 1988. Today as irradiation is an ever-increasing threat to human rights and health, Eden's position remains Zero Tolerance. Rigorous selection and screening down to every herb, spice, and seasoning provides us 100% confidence that no EDEN food or ingredient is, has been, or ever will be subject to irradiation. We encourage your vigilance and activism.

Superior Food Safety
In 2001 Eden sought membership with AIB International. Through this program all of Eden's United States facilities are inspected and rated by strict third party AIB inspectors. Eden's Superior AIB ratings (the highest possible) reflect a deep, company wide commitment to food safety and sanitation and HACCP management programs.
Pest Free + People Friendly
Since 1981 Eden has contracted with the family business EcoPest to design and implement the first organic pest management program for transportation, processing plants, retails stores, warehouses, grain elevators, and mills. EcoPest owner / founder L. Ernest Otter has proven that organic pest management is more effective, more efficient, and safer than traditional chemical pest control. In 1996 Mr. Otter presented the first scientific paper on Organic Structural Pest Management at the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement's (IFOAM) Scientific Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. He describes Eden Foods as "A model for current trends in food safety methods."
Kosher
Eden has been dedicated to certifying foods kosher where possible for more than 30 years. Today over 97% of EDEN foods are kosher certified. Eden chose the Organized Kashrus Laboratories of New York, NY and their 'circle k' mark because of their reputation for authenticity and exacting detail dating back to 1935.
The , when it appears on Eden packages means that the food is 'pareve' as well as kosher. Pareve means the food and food contact surfaces are free of both dairy and meat, and that none of the food processing or storage equipment has ever come into contact with any animal product.
